On December 2, 2010, Healthy People 2020 launched its ambitious, yet achievable, 10-year agenda for improving the Nation’s health. Healthy People 2020 is the result of a multi-year process that reflects input from a diverse group of individuals and organizations. In the United States, racial and ethnic minorities suffer more from preventable diseases and die earlier than White Americans. This difference is termed a health disparity, which is officially defined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as “a particular type of health difference that is closely linked with social, economic, and/or environmental disadvantage.”
